Sister Mary Frederick, OSF
Sister Mary Frederick, 87, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Mary Elizabeth Frederick was born on September 9, 1936, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Raymond and Agnes (Hagen) Frederick. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1955, received the name of Sister Dion, and made perpetual vows in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, Minnesota, in 1967.
Sister Mary served as a teacher in Watertown, South Dakota, Santa Ana, California, and many schools in Minnesota for thirty-seven years, from 1957 to 1994. From 1996 to 2003, she served in roles at Assisi Heights, Rochester, Minnesota, as a team member for the Assisi Community Center (1996-2003) and Food Service Assistant (2004-2009). In 2010, Sister Mary served as the receptionist at the Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester, Minnesota, before her retirement.
Survivors of Sister Mary Frederick include her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared life for 69 years; six brothers, Jerome, Roger, Leonard, Bernard, Dennis, and Mark Frederick; two sisters, Marge Karnick and Sister Diane Frederick; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister, Marie Therese Frederick.
