Sister Judine Klein, OSF
Sister Judine Klein, 96, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Marie Delphine Klein was born on August 29, 1928, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to Joseph and Mary (Mossong) Klein. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1947, received the name of Sister Judine, and made perpetual vows in 1953.
Sister Judine served in various roles across Minnesota, beginning as a convent housekeeper at St. Columbia Convent, Iona, Minnesota, (1950-1953), followed by St. Margaret Mary Convent, Minneapolis, Minnesota, (1953-1954). She then taught elementary education at Sacred Heart School in Adams, Minnesota (1954-1955), before returning to convent housekeeping at St. Mary Convent in Chatfield, Minnesota, (1955-1956) and Holy Trinity Convent, Rollingstone, Minnesota, (1956-1957). She continued at St. Mary Convent (1957-1958), St. Kilian Convent in St. Kilian, Minnesota, (1958-1959), and St. James Convent in St. James, Minnesota, (1959-1960), before moving to St. Mary Convent in Tracy, Minnesota, (1960-1962). In 1962, Sister Judine served as a switchboard operator at Assisi Heights in Rochester, Minnesota, serving there until 1971. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at Sacred Heart School in Adams, Minnesota, (1971-1972) and continued at Assisi Heights while providing child care at Northgate Health Club in Rochester, Minnesota, (1972-1994). She retired in 1994 after over four decades of service.
Survivors of Sister Judine Klein include her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared life for 78 years; one brother, Jerome Klein; and one sister, Sr. Jeanette Klein. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Norbert, and Harold Klein; and one sister, Sr. Delphine Klein.
