The psalms and canticles are among the best-loved texts in scripture. This session intends to explore insights into these texts from contemporary scripture study and explore how as an artist and composer, Father Jan Michael Joncas has tried to foster these insights by means of musical settings befitting these texts. He will also share the processes involved in creating these musical settings.
Father Jan Michael Joncas was ordained a priest in The Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis, MN in 1980. He holds degrees in English from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN and in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana and the Pontificio Istituto Liturgico at the Ateneo, St. Anselmo in Rome, Italy.
