Sister Bernadette Servaty, OSF
Sister Bernadette Servaty, 103, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Sister Bernadette was born on October 9, 1921, in Osseo, Minnesota, to Peter and Laura (Marchand) Servaty. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1941, received the name of Sister Jude, and made perpetual vows in 1947. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, Minnesota, in 1960.
Sister Bernadette served in various leadership and administrative roles for over four decades. From 1952 to 1953, she served as Superior and CCD teacher at St. Mary Convent, Chatfield, Minnesota. She served as Treasurer at St. Francis Sanatorium, Denver, Colorado, from 1953 to 1955 and also as Superior and Treasurer from 1955 to 1962. In 1962, she served as Superior at St. Anne Hospice in Winona, Minnesota, later serving as Administrator from 1963 to 1968. She was Treasurer at Sacred Heart Hospice in Austin, Minnesota, from 1968 to 1969. From 1969 to 1974, Sister Bernadette worked in administration at Assisi Heights in Rochester, Minnesota, including Business Office Aide and Healthcare Coordinator. She also served as a business office aide at the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota, from 1974 to 1975. She returned to St. Anne Hospice as Administrator from, 1975 to 1980, and served as Personnel Director from 1980 to 1982. From 1982 to 1989, she served as Business Office Manager and Accountant at Assisi Heights. She served in accounting at the College of St. Teresa until 1991, before serving in secretarial roles at St. Ann Hospice and Assisi Heights until her retirement in 1997.
Survivors of Sister Bernadette Servaty include her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared life for 84 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, James, and Joseph Servaty; and two sisters, Marie Servaty and Florence Weber.
